Experience In SHIN

We here at Gerrylicious support Simon Shin 110% in his endeavor and this is where we dedicate the reviews from our members who have had the great fortune to dine in this incredible place. While we are not food critics, we highly recommend SHIN to anyone in the Los Angeles area who is looking for great food, fabulous prices, incredible service, and a wonderful ambiance to go with their dining experience.
The team and members at Gerrylicious look forward to our visit to SHIN in March 2009 and are excited to experience this first hand!
Simon, you are the BOMB!!!
While on vacation in Hollywood at the beginning of November, my friend and I had the pleasure to discover a new Korean restaurant, SHIN, situated on Wilcox Avenue. We made reservations for a Saturday evening. We both didnt know exactly what to expect. I had been in a Korean restaurant years ago in Ottawa, Canada, and what I remembered was how very spicy the food was. So I was a bit worried that I would, once again, find the food too hot. It wasnt the case. In fact, the subtle blend of spices, the aroma of the meat and vegetables, was a delight for the senses. I had the bulgogi and shared a rice medley with my friend. It was a perfect meal. I cant wait to have it again!
If I have to describe my impression of SHIN in one word, I would say, comfort. From the decors, the ambiance, the food and the personal interaction between Mr. Simon Shin, his staff and the clients, one instantly feels comfortable walking in. The mood is relaxed and the background music is not too loud allowing people to interact with each other, yet loud enough to ensure privacy. The red of the walls, the rich dark woods, the dim lights envelop you like a warm cocoon, making you feel instantly at ease. The cordiality of SHINs staff and the generosity of Mr Simon Shin himself is definitely worth mentioning. I truly enjoyed the evening at SHIN and I recommend it to everyone. I will be back next time Im in the Los Angeles area.

I didnt know what to expect when I first walked into Shin. Ive never been much into trying food Ive never eaten before, especially food from different cultures. So when my friend and I decided to try the new Korean BBQ restaurant in the middle of Hollywood, I was hoping I wouldnt leave there hungry. I was not disappointed.
When you walk into Shin, its dark and quiet but very tranquil. The dcor is eastern but modern and we were greeted by Mr. Simon Shin himself and brought to our table. The first thing that took me by surprise was the jellyfish tank behind the bar. In the mostly black, red and brown dcor, the deep blue of the tank gave the bar area an illuminating aura. The remainder of the restaurant was a calming atmosphere, and it felt as though I needed to whisper when speaking.
Then the food began. Our delightful waitress brought us bowls and bowls of appetizers (about six or so), the only one of which I remember was Kimchi. I was hesitant to try it all, but you only live once and what was the worst that could happen? Again, I was pleasantly surprised! I found myself eating the Kimchi and some bread or fish dish that I cannot remember the name, but it was delicious. Then the meal came . . .
I ordered the spicy chicken and to my surprise, our waitress brought out a plate of raw chicken pieces. She turned on the grill that was a part of our table (which I honestly didnt realize thats what it was), and the chicken on the grill. My friend ordered bulgogi and it melted in your mouth. The chicken cooked and it, too, was delightful. Very spicy, which I like. We also shared a side order of the Rice Medley that had a lot of vegetables and was the perfect addition to our meal.
My experience at Shin was nothing below perfect, and I recommend this restaurant for any type of dinner outing, whether its a group of friends and family, or a romantic dinner for two. Finally, please order the bottles of Antipodes water from New Zealand, and make sure you ask them to explain where it comes from and how it helps the environment. Just another surprise that Shin is sure to deliver.
